Change I Want is an organization of like-minded youth working towards mitigating the rampant unemployment and gradual climate change in their home country of Zambia. Founded in 2015 by Ommy Mushota and Mwala Ilwange, the organization seeks to bring together passionate and enthusiastic youth in a structured organization, in an effort to promoting environmentally friendly income opportunities for the many unemployed youth. The organization was conceptualized during the founders’ undergraduate studies and is birthed from the need to improve the entrepreneurship situation in a country where 21.41% of the youth have no formal of employment. With income opportunities at a minimum, the youth are resorting to environmentally harmful practices such as tree cutting and river sand mining. Change I Want seeks to join in the collective efforts at addressing this by promoting people-centered advocacy for sustainable green initiatives and income solutions. With a focus on Sustainable Development Goal number 1- Ending Poverty by having an Inclusive Economy, and Sustainable Development Goal number 13-Taking Urgent Action to Combat Climate Change and It’s Impacts, the organization seeks to be part of the collective global efforts at mitigating climate change while simultaneously providing green economic opportunities for Zambian youth.
